Mr Alessandro Paluzzi is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, practising at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital — one of the UK’s largest and most advanced neurosurgical centres. He has been on the GMC Specialist Register since 2012.
After completing his medical degree at the University of Padua, Italy, he undertook neurosurgical training in Newcastle upon Tyne before completing advanced Skull Base and Cerebro-vascular fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, USA — one of the world’s foremost centres for endoscopic skull base surgery.
He also holds a Master’s degree in Surgical Technology from Imperial College London, with research focusing on Virtual Reality and Minimally Invasive Surgical Innovation.
After only three years as a Consultant, Alex became the Clinical Service Lead of the Neurosurgical Department at University Hospitals Birmingham between 2015 and 2016. During that time he also led the Neuro-Vascular Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) at the same institution.
Alex is internationally recognised for his work in endoscopic and minimally invasive neurosurgery, with particular expertise in complex pituitary adenomas, meningiomas, and chordomas. His surgical series on endoscopic pituitary surgery is one of the most cited in the field.
He has featured on BBC Two’s Surgeons: At the Edge of Life and Channel 5’s Surgeons: A Matter of Life or Death.
